In her latest exhibition at Tiwani Contemporary, Prempeh expands her artistic exploration, weaving together hyperreal depictions of people, places, and interiors. Her canvases are alive with the tension between time, memory, and the instability of both. Each painting is a meditation on the impermanence of home and the fluidity of identity.
Her deeply personal narrative reflects the legacies of her family’s migration from St. Vincent in the Caribbean to London, and her father’s heritage in Ghana. The vibrant and layered compositions embody her own journey of discovery, reflecting her growing awareness of decolonial and indigenous land activism, adding profound complexity to her diasporic experience.
Prempeh’s use of oil, acrylic, and Schlag metal on canvas brings a unique visual texture, allowing viewers to experience both the intimacy and the scale of her work. Occasionally incorporating projected still or moving imagery, she invites viewers to engage with her art in an experiential, performative way, creating immersive, multi-dimensional encounters.
This exhibition runs from October 4 to November 16, 2024, at Tiwani Contemporary in London. As the first of two solo presentations, with the second scheduled for early 2025 in Lagos, Prempeh continues to push boundaries in her exploration of time, place, and personal history. Her work in Wandering Under a Shifting Sun challenges us to reflect on how landscapes—both physical and emotional—shape our lives.
