One funded place for October
We’re making one of the six places on Litro’s October Submission Sprint free for a writer who would like to take part but couldn’t otherwise afford to.
We’d particularly like younger Black writers, and writers from backgrounds still underrepresented in publishing, to put themselves forward.
The idea is simple. We want to give one writer a little more room to move a piece forward, without cost being the thing that stops them.
The funded place includes the full three-week Sprint, and some support afterwards so the work doesn’t just disappear back onto a laptop when the sessions end.
What’s included
The full October Submission Sprint
Three live sessions on 8, 15 and 22 October, working on one short piece up to 4,000 words.
A follow-up editorial conversation
A 30-minute conversation after the Sprint to look at where the piece has landed and what might come next.
A Revision Check
One further editorial look at the piece after you’ve had time to revise it.
A tailored submissions list
Magazines, journals and opportunities that are open for submissions and make sense for the work you’ve actually written.
And, where it’s useful, a connection
If there’s an editor, programme or opportunity in Litro’s orbit that genuinely makes sense for the work, we’ll try to make that introduction.
Who should apply
You don’t need a long publishing history. You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You do need a short piece you care about, something you want to move forward, and a sense that a few weeks of focused editorial support would be useful.
We’d particularly like younger Black writers, and writers from backgrounds still underrepresented in publishing, to put themselves forward.
There’s no income paperwork, no hardship essay and no manuscript upload at this stage.
