Writing and Pitching a Children’s Book: From Idea to Submission is a live 2-hour Litro masterclass with award-winning children’s author A. M. Dassu for writers who want to understand how to shape, pitch and prepare a children’s book for publication.

If you have a children’s book idea, early draft or finished manuscript, this session will help you understand the publishing process more clearly: age range, audience, genre, word count, submission packages, agents, publishing deals, editing, and what it takes to keep working as a children’s author.

Who it’s for

  • writers with a children’s book idea, draft or finished manuscript
  • writers preparing to submit to agents or publishers
  • writers who want to understand age range, audience, genre and word count more clearly
  • anyone who wants an honest, practical view of what it takes to get published in children’s books

How it works

  • One live group masterclass on Zoom with A. M. Dassu.
  • 2 hours: 90 minutes of practical teaching plus a 30-minute Q&A.
  • Small group format with seats capped at 15.
  • Bring a question about your idea, draft, submission route, agents, publishers, or next steps.

What we’ll cover

  • Audience and age range: how children’s publishing thinks about readers, categories, genres, word counts and positioning
  • Submission preparation: how to move from concept or draft towards a stronger submission package
  • Agents and publishers: what to look for in an agent, how publishing deals work, and how smaller publishers differ from the Big Five
  • After the deal: what happens once a book is acquired, including editing, events, school visits, and the work involved in staying published

What you’ll leave with

  • a clearer understanding of how the children’s publishing process works
  • a stronger sense of where your idea, draft or manuscript fits in the market
  • practical next steps for preparing your work for submission
  • insight into agents, publishers, book deals, editing, events and school visits
