Bill Drummond at the Idler Academy

The Idler Academy, 81 Westbourne Park Road, London W2 5QH, 18th May

Bill Drummond, co-founder of late 1980s avant-garde ‘pop group’, the KLF, and its 1990s media manipulating successor,  the K Foundation, launches his new collaborative project, Imajine, on Wednesday the 18th of May.

Imajine is a book by the Haitian artist and writer Claudel Casseus. Bill Drummond and Claudel Casseus worked together at the Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, two weeks before Haiti was struck by an earthquake killing over 200,000 people.

Imajine tells the story of Claudel Casseus and his family over a two week period. Beginning the moment the earthquake strikes the book speaks about Haiti; being alive and watching people die; running and the end of the world; hope, fear, praying, surviving, struggle, corruption and trust. But most importantly it speaks in words unmediated by the filter of Western journalism: coming straight from the experiences of a young artist who has lived in Port-au-Prince all his life and who has never written about anything else.

Bill Drummond will be celebrating the publication of Imajine with the words of Claudel Cassisus, adding to these those of his own.

He will also be instigating the construction of a sculpture entitled ‘40 T-shirts For Sale’.

And signing books.

Tickets are priced at £20 (including refreshments).
