Litro World Series: Breaking Borders | London

Following on from the vibrant and celebrated launch of Litro #165 Latin America, Breaking Borders edition this autumn in New York and at the Brooklyn Book Festival, Litro has teamed up with friends Cervantes Institute, The London Library, The British Library & Waterstones to present to Londoners a series of events celebrating the defiance of borders. We’re living in a time when open borders have come under threat. Thankfully, great literature stands in opposition to dividing lines, by building connections across cultures, languages, and identities. Join Litro and a continent-spanning array of writers, artists, dancers and musicians as we celebrate the defiance of borders and the launch of Litro’s World Series—Latin America edition, in London 26th – 31st October.

¡Únanse a esta Latinada!

Join us to kick the launch off with our friends at the Waterstones Tottenham Court Road. The first event in Litro World Series’ Latin America programme (27-31 Oct) is an immersive Cuban drumming workshop with TCR regulars Stripey Spanish.

This cultural workshop will be led by Cuban singer and drummer Gerardo de Armas Sarria, and will explore the country of Cuba through music and language. Every guest receives a free copy of Cuba: The Land of Miracles.
Learn to play basic rhythms on three iconic Cuban instruments central to Rumba music: the Cuban cajon, the cata and the clave; explore the origins of Cuban music with story-telling from the tutor and get speaking Spanish with the Stripey Spanish crew. This is a night suitable for complete beginners – no knowledge of Spanish or playing the drums is needed. Intermediate and advanced Spanish speakers will also gain plenty from this immersive dual language workshop.
