LSE Space for Thought Literary Festival

The London School of Economics’ third annual Space for Thought literary festival runs from the 16th to the 19th of February. The over-arching theme this year is ‘crossing borders’, and this encompasses not only travels of the cultural and international kind, but journeys around the disciplinary and metaphorical landscape too.

The programme is as eclectic as that rather wide brief implies, and events range in scope from a panel on the societal and political thought experiments found in science-fiction literature, to a reflection on the ‘ethical and practical problems’ in using interviews with former Nazis as historical evidence, to a discussion on the ingredients of a bestseller in the age of the ebook.

Many well-regarded (and indeed bestselling) writers are involved in the festival in one way or another: Andrew Motion, Lionel Shriver, Blake Morrison and Ken MacLeod, to name just a few. If by the end of the week you find yourself inspired to join their ranks, the final day hosts a series of creative writing workshops lead by published authors, as well as a number of story-telling events for children.

Space for Thought will be held at the LSE campus buildings in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, central London. Tickets must be booked in advance, however they are free and will be available from the LSE events website from the 31st of January.
