Two poetry events you should try to catch at the Southbank this summer:

The Poetry Takeaway
26 June – 1 July 2012; 12:00-5:00 p.m. everyday
You won’t be getting any unappetizing pickled eggs and soggy chips doused in dubious sauces at this takeaway van. Instead, the Poetry Takeaway caters to those hungry for a good portion of high quality literature to dig into. You can receive a bespoke poem from one of the Poetry Chefs in just ten minutes or less in the form of a poetry performance, with a written copy presented in a takeaway box. The literary chefs include Tim Clare and Hannah Walker.

Eat Your Words, Edible Poetry
30 June 2012, 3:00 p.m.
If you are still feeling peckish for yummy literary treats then join poet and performance artist Talia Randall’s imaginative workshop. Randall wants people to remember that words are physical objects, not just symbols on a piece of paper. After all, love is often described as “delicious”, and the expression “eating you inside” is often used when someone receives bad news. At this stall you can create beautiful poetry with chocolate letters and edible ink pens, and then—best of all—eat it.
